How to Write a BadAss Psychology Today Profile

Writing your Psychology Today profile can be a truly miserable experience. You find yourself tweaking the thing almost daily, and you still don't know what the hell to to write.

Friends, I'm here to help.

Not only do I have a FREE, 5-day video e-course, "Take your Psychology Today Profile From Bad to BADASS," but I also recently did a drawing on my Facebook page for a free PT Teardown. Rachel Kalina was the lucky winner, and this week I've posted the video from our chat. Enjoy!

A FEW KEY MOMENTS:

  • (3:00) Notice how I steered the conversation towards the parents and how they think & talk about their teens - why did I do that?
  • The Creepy Coffee Shop Exercise (6:07) - you can use this to tweak your PT copy so that you're actually using words/phrases that your ideal client uses (no more therapy jargon or psychobabble!).
  • (7:18) Just because you have a ton of experience in something doesn't necessarily mean that should be your area of specialization in private practice. Rachel has a ton of experience working with suicidal teens in IOP, but that doesn't mean that she needs to stick with that type of presenting issue in her PP - she gets to choose (and so do you!).
  • (11:55) Don't forget to do a PT search in your own zip code to see the kind of profiles your prospective clients are browsing (hint: Doing this can help you find ways to stand out).
  • (12:18) THE most important part of your PT profile AND (13:30) an important question to ask yourself when considering whether or not to change it.
  • (19:40) The 2nd most important part of your PT profile and how to avoid "the resume trap" (21:35).
  • How providing hope right off the bat might actually keep your ideal client from connecting with you (24:20).
  • (29:23) The 2nd paragraph of your PT profile - "The Dream Scenerio."
  • (36:35) The final paragraph - "If you don't already know I'm the best therapist for you..." + CTA

And now for the grand finale...

It's time to see Rachel's BEFORE and AFTER profiles!

You didn't think I'd leave you hanging, did you?

We aim to please here at YBTP, so without further adue, I now present Rachel's profile BEFORE profile (count how many times she talks about herself - we call that "the resume trap"):

***DRUMROLL***

And After!

Notice how Rachel talks directly to parents using words they would use.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT.

Not that Rachel's PT profile was bad, but do you see how much better it looks now? It's amazing to see what a simple formula can do to make your profile truly badass

Shout out to Rachel in Creve Couer, Missouri! Her willingness to have her profile reviewed got her a completely new profile, and I'm so excited to see what kind of traction she gets.

Leave a comment below and tell me what you think about Rachel's after profile. What did you learn from this PT Teardown?

And please share this post with ANY therapist you know who's looking to improve their Psychology Today profile.

P.S. I'll be doing a live video interview on crafting a Badass Psychology Today profile as part of the Holiday Happy Hour for Psychotherapists Online Summit, and I'd love for you to join me and 30+ practice-building coaches and consultants as we roll out all kinds of fun party favors right up until Christmas Eve. Come on in and join the party!
